The NHBC said registrations were up 9% compared with the previous quarter, but down 6% on a year ago. The comparison against the third quarter of 2011 reveals a 7% decline in the private sector, with social housing numbers down 5%.

Total registrations reached 28,151, comprising 20,328 in the private sector and 7,823 in the public sector.

“Recent measures announced by the government are desperately needed but their success will only be realise through a collaborative effort between the industry and government,” said Richard Tamayo, NHBC commerical director.

Regions in England experiencing year-on-year growth were the north-east, north-west, East Midlands, south-west and south-east.
