A new web-based training programme has been launched in the US to allow lumber and building materials yards to be certified as a source of green building information.

The Certified Green Dealer Programme, launched by lumber and building materials magazine LBM Journal, uses online training and printed resource material to test dealers and their employees on their knowledge of environmentally-friendly building products and practices.

In order to achieve Certified Green Dealer status, 75% of employees at a site must undertake the training and demonstrate their ability to offer green information to customers.

“With this programme, dealers can educate their personnel and brand themselves as authorities on green building practices, as they position themselves to take advantage of this emerging market by offering high-margin premium green products,” said Rick Schumacher, editor of LBM Journal.
