Fibraplac SA has ordered a new 1,800m3 per day medium density particleboard line (MDP) for its Glorinha site in southern Brazil.

A Siempelkamp ContiRoll line is scheduled to be devliered by the end of 2013, with commercial production expected to start in the second half of 2014.

The company, part of the Isdra Group, already runs a smaller Siempelkamp continuous MDP line with a 500,000m3 annual capacity.

Fibraplac also operates two older 750m3 per day MDF production lines.

Meanwhile, in South Africa FX Veneers has announced a partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation which will commission South Africa’s third MDF plant by the middle of 2013, according to the Wood SA & Timber Times.

A 1,200m3 per day capacity plant is planned to be constructed near Arburton, using Dieffenbacher technology.

FX Veneer said the last South African investments in MDF production capacity were back in the 1980s with Sonae Novaboard and PG Bison.

PG Bison has also announced the addition of a further MDF line at its existing MDF factory near Johannesburg.

Bison has signed a contract with Siempelkamp for the supply ofa new ContiRoll MDF line to fulfil local demand for 4×7-8ft and 6×7-12ft boards with thicknesses of 2.5-40mm.

An 8,000m2/day melamine-faced board press will also be installed at the factory.

The investments are part of Bison’s restructuring efforts to become to top board manufacturer in Africa.
