Start-up panel products and furniture components specialist F&D (Hull) is installing SCM technology in its 30,000ft² factory.
The company has been launched by director Kevin Saddington and production manager Tony Mossop to supply kitchen and bedroom retailers, including cash and carry outlets demanding a wide range of carcasses, doors and worktops.
Its market, said the company, puts the onus on “maximum flexibility” in production and rapid order turnaround and delivery.
The machinery it selected to help ensure this includes SCM’s Sigma Prima 67 automatic beam saw and its S2000 automatic single edgebander, with the machine supplier undertaking installation, commissioning and staff training on the new equipment.
The Sigma prima 67 has 3800x3800mm cutting capacity and features fixed and mobile flotation tables for ease of loading and manoeuvering stacks of large panels, plus “easily programmeable” PC controls.
The S2000 features diamond trimming cutters and can apply PVC or melamine tape, 2 or 3mm BAS, laminate, or solid wood lippings. It is also fitted with a two-position pneumatic kit for fast changeover between thicknesses and uses the Orion 220 Plus Control System, the functions of which include electronic positioning of the top pressure unit.
F&D has also installed an SCM Pratix 48 NST CNC machining centre from predecessor furniture business Humberdale.
