The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) has launched a global consultation on the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS).

MTCS, through the Malaysian Timber Certification Council, was established in 1998 in order to provide a voluntary national timber certification programme covering tropical species.

A national consultation has already been held in Malaysia, and PEFC is now calling for international comments on the scheme ahead of its decision whether to endorse MTCS or not.

Finnish assessor Indufor Oy is carrying out the consultation, with comments required by September 23.
