The South American country is the latest to become embroiled in claims of illegal logging, following the release of a report that suggests “a huge majority of the exporting companies sell illegally logged mahogany”.
The National Association of Amazon Indians, Peru (AIDESEP) and the Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) have claimed that more than three-quarters of the companies exporting mahogany from Peru are doing so illegally, threatening inidgenous tribes and violating the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
