Posi-Joists have been used in a vertical alignment for the first time – on the Grand Designs television show.

Palgrave Brown supplied the Posi-Joists for the £725,000 Sugar Cube house in Bristol.

Commercial architect Martin Pease designed his house in steel and timber frame, with the joists used vertically for the floor and roof support. The products were also used in their normal horizontal application.

Exeter-based Westructure Timber Frame used Mr Pease’s ideas and design to produce detailed drawings and a CAD 3D image.

“This was the first time we’d used Posi-Joists in vertical alignment,” said Westructure managing director Peter Doman. “It meant we could have large ceilinged rooms as well as fulfil Martin’s vision of wide open spaces.”
