Potlach Corporation’s wood products division has seen profits dip in the second quarter due to higher log costs and lower selling prices for timber.

The division recorded profits of US$13.9m for the second quarter, down from US$23.9m a year ago.

Potlach said increased lumber shipments partially offset the lower prices.

Group profits rose slightly to US$8.2m from US$1.7m a year ago, mainly due to improved operating results for its resource and consumer products divisions.

Net profits for the first six months totalled US$12m, compared with just US$800,000 in the first half of 2004.
