The Princess Theatre in Torquay has been treated with Sealcoat and Zeroflame Matt Clear Varnish from Wetherby-based Zinsser UK Ltd, which is designed to prevent the spread of flames as well as providing a “perfect, beautiful, even rich finish”.

“The wood panelling in the main auditorium is a major attractive feature,” said Steve Woodroffe of Torbay Decorating Ltd, the painting contractor for the refurbishment.

“The decision to decorate was taken with both aesthetics and safety in mind, with particular reference to fire precautionary properties.”

The Zeroflame varnish is designed to expand in fire conditions to form a rigid, non-combustible foam layer which prevents fire spread, while Sealcoat “gives a rich tone to wood surfaces” as it seals and protects according to Zinsser.
