The use of timber in construction will be promoted by wood. for good at a seminar organised by the Forestry Commission in Builth Wells, Wales on June 19.
John Fletcher, project manager of wood. for good, said: “It is important to show that there is a growing market for processed timber in the UK, and this seminar is aiming to promote local markets for the Welsh timber industry. An increase in the use of timber in construction can ensure the Welsh timber and wood processing industry is sustainable.”
Other speakers include Brian Robertson of James Jones and Sons Ltd who will focus on the I-beam and opportunities for home-grown timber; Vahik Enjily of the BRE and Ian Layzell of the National Assembly Construction and Domestic Energy branch.
Wood. for good is also sponsoring a design masterclass at London King’s Cross Central redevelopment scheme on June 14. Six of the UK’s most exciting architecture practices will be asked to design a building to flank the development’s main public space.
