The Scottish Forest Industries Cluster is organising a learning visit to the European Wood Energy Road – a French/Swiss collaboration which links around 28 biomass energy demonstration installations in eastern France and western Switzerland.
The focus of the visits will be on heating buildings with wood fuels and the issues surrounding the fuel supply chain.
The aim of the trip is to allow Scottish organisations and policy-makers to see how the most mature and largest renewable energy sector functions and to encourage change and investment in Scotland.
The organisers say opportunities exist for businesses to develop new supply chains for biomass equipment and associated woodfuel supplies in Scotland.
Energy users can consider investment in biomass energy systems to replace or displace fossil fuel use and benefit from clean and reliable forms of energy provision while policymakers can learn how policies can be changed to stimulate market development in Scotland.
The trip involves two full days of site visits – on October 10 and 11 – but there is also the option for delegates to visit the “Bois Energie” Wood fair at Lons-le-Saaunier on October 9.
