Lumin is made from eucalyptus and pine by Weyerhaeuser in Uruguay and has achieved both PEFC forest and chain of custody certification. The SIG deal was brokered by Weyerhaeuser UK distribution partner James Latham.

The product, which was launched in 2009, will be stocked in plywood grades CDX and CCXPTS.

"Our customer base is under increasing pressure to use sustainable materials from sustainable sources. The proven credentials of Lumin made it an ideal solution to enhance our offering," said SIG distribution category manager Andy Fairweather.

The Lumin range is CE2+ certified for external structural use while the 18mm eucalyptus-faced panel is also approved for use in roofing applications under SC1 and SC2. The 18mm panel can be used with accessible and non-accessible roofs where edges are supported.

Weyerhaueser European managing director John Guerin said: "This agreement is a major step toward adoption of Lumin in the UK and Europe."

Weyerhaeuser has more than doubled the production volume at the Uruguayan plant, with more than 50% destined for the European market.
