Smee Timber Ltd believes it will become the largest distributor of FSC-certified hardwood in the UK following the latest development of its stock range.
The Winsford-based firm has extended its standard hardwood offer to include FSC-certified temperate hardwoods from stock for national distribution. This month it is taking receipt of 300m3 of sawn white ash, hard maple and white oak from the US, together with beech from Europe.
The company says the move is important as it provides buyers with FSC certified material “with possibly no premium above standard prices”. In most cases, the specification is available in kiln-dried 1in, 1.25in,1.5in and 2in thickness in standard lengths and widths, in FAS 80/20 and better grade.
Smee was first FSC-certified by the Soil Association in 2000 and then again by TRADA on April 11, 2001 for FSC chain of custody. The certificate is valid until 2005.
Among Smee’s customers for certified timber is B&Q.
