The RM4m centre is a joint collaboration between the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) and Limkokwing University College of Creative Technology (LUCT).

The 1.3 acre TIC site is to be built next to the MTIB’s wood industry skills development centre.

Plantation industries and commodities minister Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui said the project is crucial to position Malaysia as a world-class timber producer and exporter.

And LUCT president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing said Malaysia’s growth potential in the global timber products market is tremendous – but that a major weakness is the lack of attention given to creativity in application.

He said the focus must be on creating a vibrant and complete eco-system that would encourage creative thinking leading to dynamic innovations.
