Epping-based Hoppings supplied its Q-Deck York style decking and Q-Garden Surrey pergola and sawn landscaping sleepers for the Mayor of London’s “Sunshine Garden”. The display, with the pergola surmounted by with a sedum roof, drew the crowds during the July 4-9 show and among the visitors was the Mayor himself, Ken Livingstone.
Sustainability and water conservation were the themes of both the Sunshine Garden and the Urban Jungle, another display which Hoppings furnished with its Q-Garden planed landscaping sleepers, a European redwood product treated to hazard class four.
The sleepers used in the Urban Jungle were used as a low maintenance alternative to lawn. Rows of herbs were planted between the sleepers to create a scented area for visitors.
Meanwhile, Strood-based Morgan Timber provided British oak for TV DIY expert Tommy Walsh’s show garden, which won the Silver Flora award in the small garden category. Tommy was keen to use timber for the design from the outset and originally contacted The Timber Trade Federation to find a supplier and Morgan agreed to donate the material he needed.
The aim of the garden was also to raise awareness of the men’s health campaign “Sorted in 10” (www.sortedin10.co.uk). The charity is chaired by motor racing star Sir Stirling Moss who was there on the day.
