The Timber Expo show will include an awards event for exhibitors this year.

The Timber Expo 2012 Awards will be judged by a panel of independent experts and the event’s official partners from the media and industry organisations.

The categories will be finalised by June, but a show spokesperson said that they are likely to include Overall Best in Show, Most Innovative Product, Most Aesthetic Product, Best Energy-efficient Product, Best Offsite Solution, Best IT Solution, Best Tooling Solution, Best Landscape Product and Best Interior Design Solution.

The organisers of Timber Expo, which takes place from September 25-26 at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, have organised think tanks to gauge views on what the industry wants from the show.

Other features this year will include The Atrium, described as a gallery of design and innovation, featuring illustrations and models of award-winning timber projects. These will include a model of the TRADA and Timbmet Student Pavilion, the winner from a design competition for students at Oxford Brookes School of Architecture, plus the 15 shortlisted entries.

The Wood Awards 2012 also take place at the show and posters of the shortlisted entries will also be displayed in the gallery area.

Timber Expo will occupy 50% more stand space this year, a total of 6,000m², and is already 60% booked.

New exhibitors this year include Balcas, A&J Scott, Easi-Edge, and Edward O’Riordan.

Show sponsors include International Timber/Pasquill, James Latham, Accsys Technologies and Arch Timber Protection.

The seminar and presentation programme will include lecturer/student teaching sessions. These are aimed at updating lecturers on the resources and activitities offered by show partner TRADA to assist in teaching about timber at schools of architecture and engineering and universities.
