About 90 people made the journey to the south coast of England to take part in the long-running Southern Region Timber Trade Association (SRTTA) annual dinner on June 5.
In attendance at the Highcliff Marriott Hotel were large sawmilling groups Södra, Setra, Moelven, Pfeifer, and Vida, as well as leading importers, distributors, and agents including James Latham, MDM Timber, Anglo Norden, Altripan, Price & Pierce, Jordeson, Gill & Robinson, and The Timber Group.
Merchants at the event included Sydenhams, Nicks Timber, Mid Sussex Timber, Christchurch Timber, and Lakeside Timber, while Scotline and Lacy & Middlemiss represented shipping companies. TTJ and Timber Development UK were also in attendance.
SRTTA president Charlie Stockwell, of Stockwell Forest Products, marshalled proceedings on the night in his distinctive style, welcoming guests and inviting people not to dwell on the current poor economic environment. He instead urged guests to enjoy an event which has developed a reputation as a fun fine wine and dining evening with easy networking in a brilliant location, a stone’s throw from one of the UK’s best beaches.
Comedian Jeff Stevenson, known for playing the stand-up comedian performing at Rodney Trotter’s stag night in the Only Fools and Horses the episode called Little Problems, entertained guests. An auction of a Liverpool FC match hospitality package raised more than £500 for the Timber Trades Benevolent Society (TTBS), with additional raffle fund-raising also going towards the charity.
Sponsors on the night were Stockwell Forest Products, Altripan, Price & Pierce, James Latham, Covers Timber & Builders Merchants and Metsa Wood.
