The first company in the Republic of Ireland has signed up to BM TRADA‘s Q-Mark scheme for fire door installers.

As a provisional member, Dublin’s Tracey Joinery has already undergone a period of training and passed the written examination. BM TRADA will now carry out an initial on-site audit on doors installed for a customer, after which full membership will be granted.

Tracey Joinery director Leo Tracey Jnr said the decision to join the Q-Mark scheme was made to take the business forward to a new level.

He added: “As a registered installer, we believe we will have additional clout with architects and specifiers.”

Mr Tracey says there are many companies in the Republic who can supply and install fire doors – but there are no regulations governing installation. He said: “That means it isn’t always done properly. We are confident enough in our workmanship to ask BM TRADA to stand over the doors we install and to give independent certification that we are doing it correctly. It underlines our confidence in ourselves and gives our customers added confidence in us.”
