A presentation on innovations in flitched beams will be held at the Institution of Civil Engineers’ London head office on July 16.
Chris Mettem, chief research engineer at TRADA Technology, will be guest speaker at the event chaired by Steve Gregson of the Building Design Partnership. The presentation starts at 5.30pm.
Mr Mettem’s presentation will summarise findings from a recent research project.
The project examined how the innovation of a new flitch system could be turned into practice within the UK timber supply chain, and the development of a specific, new, value-added use for home-grown softwoods within the construction sector.
Once the project is completed, TRADA will examine the results to provide a case study for further commercial and technical ventures.
