In a €2m investment, the green sorting plant at Vapo Timber Oy’s Hankasalmi sawmill is being modernised and capacity of the impregnation plant is being almost doubled.
Meanwhile a €5m investment has been completed at the company’s Kevätniemi sawmill where the sawing line was partially replaced, the log sorting yard extended and drying capacity increased and reorganised.
Vapo Timber says the upgrade at Hankasalmi, due for completion early next year, will further tailor production to customer requirements and strengthen the sawmmill’s position as a supplier of sawn goods to industry in particular.
The capacity of the impregnation plant is being almost doubled to around 20,000m3 a year and in future the plant will be able to make use of different impregnating agents and boost exports of impregnated products.
Following the investment at Kevätniemi the mill will focus on special and customer-specific products. Capacity is set to rise from 240,000m3 to 270,000m3 a year.
