The business and assets of Wadkin Ltd have been acquired by S&C Holdings just a year after the company was bought from administrators.

The business will continue to trade from Bardon as Wadkin Ltd and all staff are remaining.

Wadkin becomes one of three commercial enterprises operated by S&C Holdings, which is headed by Tony Wilkinson, former chairman of Wilkinson’s Hardware Stores.

Mr Wilkinson had already been a financial backer of Wadkin. He supported a management-led acquisition of the business from administrators Mazars in November 2007.

Wadkin Ltd chairman Peter Smith, who is also a shareholder in Wadkin, told TTJ that the company had been refining its strategy over the past 12 months to help it compete more competitively. But the economic slowdown had affected the performance of the business, leading to the acquisition.
