Daltons Wadkin’s engineers had to find a way to free the machine from the end of a first floor landing where it had become entombed in the former foundry building.

The Wadkin WX pattern miller machine had apparently been walled in by contractors who had converted the foundry into offices many years ago.

Builders removed the walls and the roof. The road was closed and a crane hired to lift the machine out and onto a lorry.

The machine was required for an export sales opportunity in Zimbabwe.

"I do not think we have ever had a job like this before," said Daltons Wadkin director Francis Dalton.
