The Timber Trade Federation (TTF) says its influence is growing after welcoming Weyerhaeuser as an overseas associate member.

Weyerhaeuser Products Ltd, the European operation of the US-based international forest products giant, said the majority of its UK customer base was already part of the TTF, so membership provided a strategic opportunity to further align the company and its activities with this network.

The TTF’s head of technical and trade policy Nick Boulton said Weyerhaeuser’s membership signalled the TTF’s growth in influence, “both in terms of our size and the members we attract”.

Its membership comes just weeks after its Lumin plywood range achieved PEFC certification.

Weyerhaeuser previously supplied evidence of a responsible purchasing policy to TTF members but will now formally provide this information as an associate member of the TTF.

Weyerhaeuser’s European managing director, John Guerin, said the company was keen to demonstrate it was a committed, responsible and sustainable supplier to the UK market.

“As part of the TTF we want to play a proactive role and help shape the future of the industry – working closely with our customers and the other members,” he said.
