Weyerhaeuser is to sell its Irish MDF manufacturing plant as part of the company’s decision to spin off its composite panels business.

The Clonmel mill, which supplies a range of Medite MDF products predominantly to the UK and Irish markets, is being sold together with five other MDF and chipboard plants in the US.

Weyerhaeuser chairman, president and CEO Steven Rogel said: “As part of our ongoing portfolio review, we have determined that the composite panels business is not a strategic fit for Weyerhaeuser.

“We believe that the skilled employees at these highly competitive and efficient mills will provide greater value for a new owner who is more focused on this line of business products.”

Weyerhaeuser recently announced ite intention to sell its French composite panels business to Financiera Maderera SA for an undisclosed sum.
