Shadow agricultural and rural affairs minister James Paice told the July 12 Westminster gathering, which also included representatives from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and the Games’ delivery partner CLM, that he was “passionate” about using timber as a long-term construction product because of its aesthetic and eco credentials.

He also hailed the achievement of 125 MPs signing an early day motion supporting the aims of the campaign.

Dr Peter Bonfield, the ODA’s leader for construction products, said the ODA had serious ambitions of using wood products for the Games and he was impressed with the industry’s increased readiness to be able to supply Olympic projects.

There was also an appeal from Timber Trade Federation chief executive John White for the industry to further back the campaign with finances so Wood for Gold can carry on its work in the years leading up to the Games.
