A new appeal to the UK timber industry to invest in its future by contributing to the wood. for good campaign is under way.
A brochure entitled Your industry needs you – raising funds for 2005 and beyond is being sent to members of trade organisations including the Timber Trade Federation, British Woodworking Federation, UK Timber Frame Association, British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association and the Wood Panel Industries Federation.
Wood. for good managing director Charles Trevor said the campaign, now in its fifth year, had become increasingly acknowledged both within the industry and among its target audiences.
But, with a permanent funding solution some way off, he said the campaign needed greater funding from the UK timber industry, especially as today’s market offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for the timber industry.
The government’s agenda to build more homes, improve the building process, cut building costs and reduce CO2 emissions, coupled with the sustainability of timber products, presents a great opportunity for timber – an opportunity, Mr Trevor said, that must not be allowed to slip into competitors’ hands.
Additional funding is being sought to extend CPD seminars, produce additional publications, stage a student architects’ design competition, provide a Building Sustainably with Timber showcase at the Building Centre, London and develop a two-year sustainable timber building project with manufacturers and retailers.
Money is also needed for an ongoing marketing and PR campaign targeting consumers.
