AHEC promotes carbon footprint data

19 March 2011

The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) used Ecobuild to promote its work on the life cycle analysis of US hardwoods.

“In previous years we’ve focused on one particular species – such as tulipwood – but the message this time is all about US hardwoods’ strong environmental credentials,” said Rupert Oliver, Forest Industries Intelligence, who helped man the stand.

“The carbon footprint of hardwoods was an issue that came up last year, so we really got going on compiling data in the correct format.” To this end, AHEC has commissioned a comprehensive independent study in line with relevant national and international carbon footprinting standards from Germany-based PE International.

Mr Oliver added that the life cycle data enabled the organisation to look at which areas of US hardwoods could be expanded, and what the likely environmental impact would be.
