BSW donates timber to red squirrel project

23 October 2010

BSW Timber has donated the main construction materials to build a new viewing hide for red squirrels on the Duke’s Trail in Kielder Water & Forest Park, Northumbria.

Created as the flagship site for the Save our Squirrels project, the largest single-species conservation project in the UK, the hide was designed by Ross Associates working in partnership with Philippa Mitchell, Save our Squirrels wildlife officer for Northumberland, and built by the Forestry Commission.

“The viewing hide is a fantastic addition to the wildlife hub in the Kielder area. The design blends well into the mixed woodland,” said Save our Squirrels project manager Carri Nicholson, adding that the project was grateful for BSW’s contribution.

BSW director of sales and marketing Alan Wheat said timber was perfect for the hide as it complemented the surroundings.
