Robot wars

11 June 2011

Robots were more prevalent at this year’s Ligna, particularly on the Maka stand where one picked up sweets, waving them around cheekily, before depositing them down a tube for visitors.

The handling robot was part of a high-end, high-volume five and three axes twin-table machining centre worth about £750,000.

“For people who want to buy run-of-the-mill standard machines there are plenty of other German and Italian companies,” said UK sales manager Iain Young.

He reported two sales at Ligna, while recent UK installations, included a machining and handling system featuring two robots at Premdor.
