Stakapal fits out Latham's Scottish site

Storage specialist Stakapal Ltd has supplied James Latham’s first Scottish site with racking to aid its handling and storage of timber.

The 40,000ft² Lanarkshire site, which opened in the spring, supplies a range of timber products, including MDF, plywood, door blanks, flooring and decking.

Stakapal’s cantilever racking has been installed at the site to handle a variety of these products, which the Cannock-based firm said was specified to cope with the varied demands of the products.

The installation at the Scottish site is part of a multi-site agreement with Lathams that includes its Fareham and Ossett sites. This has required storage solutions ranging from 6.5-9.5m in height and with the ability to carry up to 7,000kg.

“From the initial meeting to the development of each site, Stakapal has delivered every project on time and on budget,” said Latham director Andy Duffin.

“[Stakapal] offered sensible and practical advice providing useful improvements in the guided aisle and the interface between the trucks and rack, ensuring less damage and trouble free picking.”

Stakapal added its “unique boxed and tapered column design” meant deflection is not a problem; “essential when operating within constrained aisle guidelines and with specialist handling equipment”.
