Timber Expo: DHH Timber has the world at its feet
5 October 2013DHH Timber staff were in demand to talk about Worldscape, the vast 80-seater “dining landscape” for which it supplied the melamine-faced plywood.
The sculpture is an intricate map of the world, complete with cities and mountain ranges, and was created by Atmos Studios for Global Feast - 20 evenings of world cuisine held during last year's London Olympics.
The project, on display at Timber Expo, provided a meeting point and seating for show visitors, and drew visitors to the adjacent stand that DHH and Atmos Studios shared.
"We've had a good response," said DHH director David Francis.
"People are particularly interested in Riga Mel which was used to create Worldscape."
The Latvian birch plywood is overlaid with melamine film on both sides.
Mr Francis and Atmos director Alex Haw were both pleased with how the product had withstood the rigours of use and being dismantled and erected many times.
"Riga Mel is durable, hygienic and it has great dimensional tolerance. It's a beautiful, high quality board," said Mr Haw.
