Timeless appeal

BSW has produced garden landscaping products for over a decade but this year’s relaunch of the Timeless Timber range has seen the brand move up a gear. Jennifer Butler reports.

Originally launched in 2001, Timeless Timber was BSW's first foray into the garden landscaping market. The investment paid off, with Timeless Timber becoming one of the company's most successful brands.

In fact, since its launch, Timeless has become a market leader for BSW as the range has tapped into the increasing trend for homegrown timber. Timeless larch cladding has proved particularly popular with users seeking a richer colour and good grain character alternative to Siberian larch.

At the start of 2013, BSW decided to relaunch the brand, and Timeless Timber Brushwood was born.

"Timeless Timber has been one of BSW's most popular and trusted brands since its launch 12 years ago," said Eve Johnson, BSW's group marketing manager.

"As the market has moved forward, BSW has moved with it," she added. "The new offering will provide customers with the quality, durable products they expect from the Timeless Timber range, but with increased choice to ensure the range fits a wider range of purposes."

The new range places increased emphasis on the look and feel of the product, without compromising on quality.

The expanded range includes beams, brushwood-finished decking, tongue and groove boards and cladding, and was designed to take centre stage in garden makeover projects across the UK. Expanded in response to consumer and trade demand, the new products deliver highly aesthetic and functional timber products for interior and exterior purposes. A dedicated website has helped to bridge the transition between trade and consumer audiences by offering hints, tips, case studies and images.

These new products sit alongside the established Timeless Timber range, which includes landscaping sleepers and decking, and increased emphasis has been placed on the use of home-grown species, particularly larch and Douglas fir.

The full range is suitable for a diverse range of purposes, from garden landscaping, decking and walkways, to hardworking outdoor spaces, such as sheds or exterior cladding. Indoors, beams add character to high-ceilinged spaces.

Timeless in action
A Dumfries garden has been transformed from a stark and empty space into an idyllic outdoor retreat following a substantial redesign using BSW Timber products.

Landscape architect John Kennedy used sustainably sourced Timeless Timber along with BSW's easi range products to create a new outdoor living space at his Dumfries home.

The project, which took three months to complete, means the family can now enjoy an expansive garden with decked seating and a dedicated playing area for the children.

"Previously our garden was just a plain lawn, inaccessible from the majority of the house with no privacy or security from the busy road at the front of the house," said Mr Kennedy. "The garden is a really important part of our home and we all use it frequently, so after renovating our house we wanted to connect the garden with our indoor living spaces.

"We built a raised timber deck from the French windows in the living room, which really feels like an extension of our lounge area and was used almost every day throughout the summer. We used timber sleepers as an edge to the decking and to manage the height difference between the decking, which is flush with the floor level of the house, and the lawn, which is at a lower level. The remaining sleepers were used to make an edging for the children's play area, which, of course, is a very popular addition."

The Kennedy family used a range of products to create their dream garden, including Timeless Timber original decking, Timeless Timber sleepers, easi edge joists and easi fence posts.

"The timber hasn't just changed the aesthetics of our garden, it has also made it more private and secure," said Mr Kennedy. "We've installed beautiful fencing around the garden to create a safe and private space without making it feel enclosed. The versatility of the easi fence boards allowed us to create a curved section of fencing with closely spaced fence posts, as well as a removable section for access and a section of fencing along the top of a retaining wall. The timber is pre-treated with preservative so we won't need to worry about its durability and resilience to the challenges of winter weather."
