Mr Churchill started his career with Stenner on August 13, 1962 when, as a 16-year-old, he joined the company as an apprentice turner and fitter. The apprenticeship was for five years at a starting wage of £3.10p.

After qualifying, the young Mr Churchill worked in several departments before settling in the role of production controller, which he still holds today. He also assists the spares department, using his vast technical knowledge, particularly of the older Stenner machines.

"Ken’s input has been huge over the last 50 years and there are many old Stenner resaws still functioning because of the expertise he can bring to our client base," said managing director Syd Mather.
