Timber Expo: X-LAM Alliance takes advantage

5 October 2013

The X-LAM Alliance, the partnership between Austrian cross-laminated timber manufacturer Binderholz and B&K Structures, made full use of Timber Expo to spread its cross-laminated timber (CLT) message.

On the stand, the modular design of a plywood model illustrated the CLT concept, while the company also gave two seminar presentations and had meetings booked in the Buyer's Forum.

"We are really keen to educate people about the use of CLT," said development engineer Sally Wallwin.

"It can often be eliminated at the design stage because of a lack of knowledge."

To address this, the X-LAM Alliance has developed the CLT Construction Specifier, a digital search tool which was shortlisted in this year's TTJ Timber Innovation Award.

"It is to help designers in the early stages, rather than coming up with a design and then trying to fit CLT around it," said Ms Wallwin.
