Asia’s largest pulp producer, PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper, is being sued for allegedly processing illegal timber.

The action is being taken by a regency in the Sumatran province of Riau. Spokesperson Daslir Maskar said that recent investigations showed that 95% of the raw material supplied to Riau Andalan’s pulp and paper mills was sourced from outside the company’s industrial estates, including from protected forests.

The company has denied all the accusations and said it will fight the lawsuit.
