The Philippines is to impose advance VAT on naturally grown or cultivated timber before it can be transported.
Owners and sellers of timber would have to pay a 12% tax on the value per cubic metre of a particular kind of each timber product, the value of which has been set down in a schedule.
A government spokesman said: “Timber is one of the country’s most valuable wood products.”
