More than 30 people attended the event, which aims to support merchant members and their timber and wood products suppliers.

Delegates at the meeting, chaired by Gary Froggatt of Howarth Timber and Building Supplies and timber category director of the Fortis buying group, included Buttle, Elliot Brothers, MKM, Mid Sussex Timber, Selco, West Building Supplies, Arbor Forest Products, Peppard Group, Snows Timber, SCA, Timbmet, Vicaima and Norbord.

The day included presentations from the National Measurement Office, the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) and the Trussed Rafter Association on the EU Timber Regulation, the Construction Products Regulation, the Housing Review, and producs issues, including the BMF/BWF Fire Door Scheme.

Mr Froggatt said the meeting demonstrated the need for a timber forum.

“I’m looking forward not only to meeting regularly with others working in this area, but also to the benefits the BMF can bring by advancing our voice with legislators, and by ensuring that we have timely information on upcoming regulations that will help us develop the market,” he said.

BMF managing director John Newcomb said it was “a very positive start” for the Timber Forum and three further events were planned for 2015.

The BMF also has a forum for the plumbing and heating sector.
