The sawmiller’s Fort William site donated a significant amount of locally sawn spruce and Douglas fir materials to help construct the newly opened Highland Cinema in the Scottish town.

Products from BSW’s construction timber range were used to build the cinema and they feature as prominent design elements throughout the new restaurant. Large section Douglas fir beams are also interspersed with smaller Douglas fir slats throughout – a nod to the town’s historic relationship with sawmilling.

Douglas fir has been used to create unique tabletops too, with large sections being utilised to build striking natural mantelpieces for the cinema’s homely fireplaces.

Easi-Edge C16 timber acts as internal framing as well as helping to create boxing for the cinema’s seating areas.

“We were hugely excited to be involved with the construction of the cinema in the town,” said Oliver Stephen, mill manager at BSW Fort William. “This is going to be a fantastic community asset and we’re proud to be able to give something back to the local community.

“The Highland Cinema is going to be a huge addition to the Fort William and Lochaber area – it’s an incredibly exciting family venue that should really help the town to flourish. We’re thrilled to be able to play a role in bringing this project to life”.

“We’re delighted that BSW Timber is firmly behind the cinema,” added Angus MacDonald, who has developed and funded the project. “As one of the biggest employers in the Fort William area it’s great that they’ve been so supportive of the project

“The cinema will have two screens, and a cafe serving up light meals of wood fired pizza, fresh salads and more. We’ll be open early for coffees and catch-ups, and late into the evening for movies, wine and pizzas.”

“We really hope that the Highland Cinema will become the hub of the town, creating a real buzz in the High Street.”
