The award follows BSW’s start of production of easipost15 to boost performance of treated home-grown timber posts and is further evidence of the timber sector’s efforts to address market concerns in the fencing trade about premature failures of some treated posts.

The Benchmark certificate verifies that the product is treated to a standard that will deliver a minimum service life of 15 years. Certification means easipost15 can carry labels with the WPA Benchmark logo as a reassurance to customers of third party assessment.

"Offering incised spruce posts treated in accordance with the WPA Benchmark quality scheme on a commercial scale is a real leadership move by BSW," said Steve Young, WPA director.

The product, which has been launched with a 15-year warranty, features multiple small incisions – applied on an incising machine before treatment – allowing Lonza’s Tanalith E preservatives to penetrate to a 6mm depth into the heartwood and all four faces of posts.

Incising, says BSW, enabled it to take the performance level of easipost15 beyond BS8417, effectively guaranteeing durability of the Use Class 4 fence post.

The system has been developed and tested extensively over the last two years by BSW.

"By taking a commonly used North American technique that has stood up to the rigours of the American market, BSW has employed an innovative approach to the technique of incising to fit British-grown timber and its preservation," said the company.

The easipost15 product builds on the success of BSW’s "easi" range, which offers construction, fencing and decking products, as well as sleepers, pallets and packaging.
