The brief is based on all timber in Canada being legally harvested and therefore constituting a “negligible risk” under the operator’s due diligence obligations as set out in the EUTR.

Guidance is also given for “blended-source” products where wood may have been obtained both from the US and off-shore. “We have encountered a great deal of confusion and concern amongst EU operators,” said John Park, Canada Wood UK manager.

“Our guidance, for when they are importing timber and wood products from Canada, should alleviate their concerns and make their lives a whole lot simpler.”
