The 10-storey building is going up near to the award-winning Bridport House and Murray Grove Tower CLT blocks in Hackney and is due to be completed in November.
The contract is worth £10m. The CLT subcontractor is B+K Structures, the Derby-based solid timber structural engineering specialist, through its strategic X-LAM Alliance with Binderholz, the Austrian CLT manufacturer.
The elevations will be clad in slatted larch with a dark brick screen forming the edge of the conservation area on Wenlock Road. The building is laid out in crucifix form, based on the shape of the banyan tree, and is also staggered on each level so that all the homes have double and triple aspects across the nearby Regency Canal.
When completed it will be highest CLT building in Europe and will equal the world record 10-storey tower constructed in Australia.
