Saint-Gobain group timber and builders merchant Gibbs & Dandy has rolled out chain of custody (CoC) certification for timber and wood products across its branch network.
Four of the17 branches already had CoC and the remainder were taken through the process, which is for both PEFC and FSC certification, by BM TRADA Certification.
The product range covered includes boards, panels, machined and sawn hardwood and softwoods, landscaping products, kitchen cabinets and joinery.
“Increasingly customers require the full [environmental] history of the products they purchase, including those involved in government-funded projects, large contractors and self-builders, but also homeowners who are now more aware of the importance of responsible timber sourcing,” said Andrew Cushing, Gibbs & Dandy marketing director. “Chain of custody will guarantee the environmental validity of the supply chain and, for installers, fitting chain of custody backed products could help give them a competitive advantage.”
Saint-Gobain CoC manager Sarah Broadley said that Gibbs & Dandy’s CoC accreditation would be highlighted to customers in-store. It would also leave the chain well placed for the introduction of the anti-illegal wood EU Timber Regulation next March, assuring the market that it had played its part to ensure legal and sustainable timber sourcing.
