A prototype website designed to help Europe’s forestry wood chain has been launched by Innovawood.
Set up two years ago, InnovaWood was the result of a merger of timber industry training and research bodies Eurifi, Eurofortech, EuroLigna and Eurowood which brought together around 90 institutions from 22 different countries.
It has received more than €1m of European Commission funding to create the InnovaWood Research Database website which will give end-user access to European Research Technology and Development programmes.
InnovaWood technical manager Knut Kappenberg said: “The project has involved 15 partners from 13 European countries and we have been analysing the last 12-14 years of EU funded research in different fields, all related to the forestry wood chain – from the tree to the final product.
“The results have been put into a certain template and there is a search function either by full text or key word.
“If you are an SME and have a problem you can enter a keyword and the last 14 years of EU funded research is displayed. It is a prototype and we are trying to bridge the gap between academia and the end user.”
The service, which is free, can be accessed at www.innovawood.com. The site also carries details of training programmes and courses available Europe-wide.
