Sveaskog’s subsidiary in Latvia, SIA Sveaskog Baltfor, is to develop its handling of biofuels.

The company previously only bought timber, pulpwood and biofuel but it will now start up its own production, investing in its own facilities.

“The conditions give Baltfor both advantages and some challenges,” said Sveaksog’s Bengt Karlsson.

“It is new in biofuel production and there is potential for improvement in terms of handling.”

Baltfor is looking for export customers to establish a steady flow of business. Denmark, Germany and other countries around the Baltic Sea are among those countries being targeted.
