The company completed its move to the 70,000ft2 base at Huyton Business Park in January.
The site was formerly home to a BASF print works which had been unused for about five years before Hardwood Timber Sales purchased it. The company then demolished it two years ago and succeeded in obtaining planning permission for the new warehouse and offices.
The new building is nearly twice the size of the former facility – the old Vincent Murphy timber yard – which the company rented, while the location near a junction of the M57/M62 improved logistics considerably.
"We have increased our stock by about £1m because of the bigger shed," said director John McCoy.
"We’ll also be looking at bringing in other products now, probably sheet materials and new species of hardwood." Flooring is another area being examined.
Mr McCoy said the company was also expanding its sales force, recruiting a north of London salesperson and looking for more recruits in other areas.
"We’re going into our eighth year of trading. Over the years whatever profit we have made we have re-invested in the company. Last year we had a turnover of £12m."
Mr McCoy predicted 2013 would be a tough year for the timber trade, but said lot of business was out there to be won if it was chased hard enough.
