Mass timber conference to take place in April

13 January 2022

MOD X is joining Forest Business Network and WoodWorks as a conference partner at the 2022 International Mass Timber Conference (IMTC) to promote modular, offsite construction.

The conference is the world's largest mass timber event, attracting designers and architects, builders, mass timber producers, developers, and more from around the world, and will be in Portland, Oregon, from April 12–14.

MOD X will develop, co-ordinate and moderate a series of four panel discussions as a specialised educational track at the conference, co-ordinate a local job site project tour that utilises offsite components as part of the always popular pre-conference building tours, and moderate an interactive panel discussion and virtual project tour during the IMTC virtual extension day on May 12, 2022.

"We envision wood-based modular construction to be a growing part of the mass timber movement in the US and abroad," said Craig Rawlings, founder and CEO of Forest Business Network. "We are excited that MOD X will join us at IMTC 2022 to highlight this important technology as the mass timber industry seeks ways to address the growing need for affordable housing around the world."

MOD X is a global consulting and knowledge exchange network that facilitates applied research expertise and commercial experience to the offsite construction industry. The MOD X Network is a rapidly growing body of worldwide industry leaders and organisations interested in advancing sustainable offsite construction through various knowledge exchanges and advisory services.

"The question of mass timber is one of bona fide value add," said Ryan Smith, founding partner of MOD X. "Wood offsite, industrialised and modular process and products in mass timber and light wood frame are rapidly changing the delivery platform for housing internationally. MOD X is excited to partner with IMTC 2022 in knowledge creation, exchange, and dissemination to realise more accessible, scalable, and affordable timber housing solutions."

The 2022 International Mass Timber Conference exhibit hall has expanded to 90,000ft2 to meet the needs of an ever-growing list of exhibitors (100+ registered so far), and to allow more space to attract special exhibits dedicated to modular construction. There will also be an additional 60,000ft2 in dining space for the included breakfasts and lunches. Interest in returning to an in-person conference is extremely high with exhibit spaces over 80% sold so far and sponsorships already sold out.

Registration is now open, with early bird prices for select attendee passes and all exhibit spaces currently on sale at 30% off full rate. Discounted hotel rooms are also available. Although one hotel is already sold out, there are still rooms at the Hyatt Regency Portland. The Hyatt Regency is one of the newest luxury hotels in the city and directly across the street from the convention centre.

For 2022, the International Mass Timber Conference will incorporate a hybrid design with the traditional in-person conference taking place April 12–14 followed by a virtual extension day on May 12 to provide additional international content and more opportunities for attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors to engage and connect.

The conference is produced by Forest Business Network in co-operation with the wood design experts at WoodWorks-Wood Products Council. The event is supported by Premier Sponsors including Hexion, Kallesoe Machinery, Timberlab, Kalesnikoff, and Western Archrib. Major Sponsors include: Think Wood, Freres Lumber Co.
