Mr Mazey joined the Ridgeons Timber Department in Cambridge, in 1986, where he was tasked with establishing Ridgeons Bulk Ltd on a site in Herringswell which had been acquired from Eastern Counties Sawmill. He played a key role in establishing the site as Ridgeons’ stock holding, production and distribution hub for the whole Group. In 2008 the company invested £5.5m in the site.

Over the past three years, Mr Mazey has continued to play an integral part in the team that has overseen major projects at Herringswell.

Sales and marketing manager Stephan Wait said Mr Mazey would be greatly missed.

“He has a natural ability to get the very best out of his team; he is incredibly committed and positions the customer’s interest at the heart of everything he does. He also has a wealth of timber knowledge and operational experience that is second to none,” he said.

General manager Jem Slee described Mr Mazey as “one of life’s true innovators” who “had the foresight and determination to shape Herringswell into the modern, efficient distribution site that it is today”.
