The OSB sector has launched a national construction industry apprentice award to underline the importance of training.
The OSB Tough B+++d Apprentice of the Year competition is being backed by the Wood Panel Industries Federation (WPIF), OSB manufacturers SmartPly and Norbord and resin supplier Huntsman, under the auspices of the JOSB promotional campaign.
Six regional finalists will be announced at the end of May and then flown to a “secret destination” where they will vie in a competition comprising “skills and creative challenges” for the title. The winner will receive a package of prizes worth over £2,000, including an adventure weekend and promotional support and branded workwear for their employer.
“Supporting young people in their education and career development is vital if we are to secure the future of UK construction,” said WPIF director-general Alastair Kerr. “We want to recognise the efforts of building professionals in employing and training new apprentices.”
