Persimmon, which also operates the Castle Bromwich-based Space3 timber frame manufcturing facility, said sales were 13% ahead of a year ago at £806.7m, with legal completions up 6% to 4,712 and the average selling price rising 7% to £171,206. Operating margins jumped to 12.2% (2011: 9%).

Private sales were 18% up and current forward sales, including legal completions from July 1, are now 4% up on a year ago at £1.041bn.

The company said the improved margins weere due to continued close control of costs, growth in development value from historic land investments and the introduction of more recently acquired sites.
