Louisiana-Pacific Corp wants to sell its Saratoga sawmill, Wyoming, as part of a plan to offload half its mills in the US and Canada.

The Carbon County Economic Development Corporation has hinted of a possible local effort to buy the Saratoga mill which employs about 200 people.

Disadvantages of the mill include its distance from markets and reliance on Forest Service lumber sales. But it has the benefit of having a single purchaser of all its products and access to private timber.

Louisana-Pacific announced in May that it hopes to raise US$640m by selling 30 of its 60 mills in the US and Canada. It is also disposing of one million acres of forest in Idaho, Texas and Louisiana
